Abbotsford Events

Stetís ímexstowx Gathering

  • Where: Abbotsford’s Civic Plaza / Thunderbird Square (32388 Veterans Way)
  • When: September 30th, 2024 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Hosts: Abbotsford Children’s Theatre, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service, Abbotsford Police Department, Abbotsford School District, City of Abbotsford, Clearbrook Library (FVRL), Literacy Matters Abbotsford, The Reach Gallery Museum, Tourism Abbotsford, University of the Fraser Valley’s Peace and Reconciliation Centre (PARC)

All ages are welcome to this free indoor/outdoor event, which will feature drumming, art from Robert Bateman Secondary’s Lex̱éywa Art Activism class, Halq’eméylem storytelling, and a performance of Luminous Waters.

Walking Forward

  • Where: Sema:th First Nation (2788 Sumas Mtn. Road, Abbotsford)
  • When: September 29th, 2024 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Hosts: Sto:lo Nation, Sumas First Nation and Sts’elemeqw Residential School Thrivers Society

The event will honor residential school survivors, as well as 1960s scoop and day scoop survivors. There will be various activities and ceremonies throughout the day as well as a lunch and a salmon barbecue dinner in the evening .

Mission Event

Candlelight Vigil for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women

  • Where: Fraser River Heritage Park (7494 Mary St, Mission)
  • When: October 4th, 2024 4:00 pm to 6:00 p.m
  • Hosts: Peters and Danya Druckery

A candlelight vigil to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people. The vigil will include speakers, songs, stories and hanging posters for lost and stolen loved ones. Chilli and bannock (with a vegetarian option) will be provided to those in attendance.

Chilliwack Events

3rd Annual Orange Shirt Day Pow Wow

  • Where: Chilliwack Secondary School (46363 Yale Rd, Chilliwack)
  • When: September 27th & 28th, 2024
  • Hosts: Chilliwack School District, Garry Abbott, Marcella Sunshine

Enjoy watching dancers, singers and drummers, while browsing more than 70 vendors making and selling Indigenous goods. More details here.

Truth and Reconciliation Day Community Event

  • Where: Sardis Park (46363 Yale Rd, Chilliwack)
  • When: September 30th, 2024 11:30 am to 3:30 pm
  • Host: Wilma’s Transition Society

Day filled with information booths, food trucks, kid’s area, prizes, and more.

Honouring Residential School Thrivers and Survivors

  • Where: Coqualeetza Memorial Post, 7201 Vedder Road, Chilliwack
  • When: September 30th, 2024 10:30 am to 12:00 pm with meal to follow
  • Hosts: Stó:lō leadership & the Sts’elemeqw Residential School Thrivers Society

Sts’elemeqw Residential School Thrivers board members will be speaking and a meal will be served after the ceremony.

Truth and Reconciliation Day at Greendale Acres

  • Where: Greendale Acres (41905 Yale Rd W, Chilliwack)
  • When: September 30th, 2024 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Hosts: Greendale Acres

Free admission for all Indigenous community members, in honor of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Traditional Bannock will also be made and sold as a fundraiser for the Memiyelhtel program from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. All guests are encouraged to wear an orange shirt.
