Barry was born and raised in Abbotsford, as were his parents. Though his working life was almost always outside of this community, including for a number of years in Calgary and Williams Lake, Abbotsford has been his home for the majority of his adult life. Together, his wife and he raised their family here, and have had the privilege of participating in a range of community activities here. Some highlights for Barry were coaching youth soccer for 13 years, including 8 wonderful years locally as the coach of his daughter’s team, serving as a Scout leader for his son’s troop, volunteering at the Canada Summer Games, and, of course, his 16 plus years with Archway.
Over the years, Barry has watched as Abbotsford has changed from a small community into a large city. With this growth have come many needs and challenges. In a small way, being a member of the board of Archway has allowed him to give back to the community. For Barry, helping Archway become and remain a strong and healthy organization so that it can continue to serve those who most need help is a deeply rewarding endeavour.
