Job Summary

Plans and implements developmentally appropriate childcare programming. Creates a nurturing environment for the children and provides them with encouragement and modeling to enhance their literacy, motor, communication, emotional regulation and other life skills. Values all people and their diversity and demonstrates this in providing service in a timely, courteous and friendly manner. Maintains harmonious working relationships with all personnel and displays a non-adversarial, non-confrontational and cooperative approach in completing of all tasks.

Your Role:

Archway’s Family Education Childcare Worker with the Family Education Program contributes by:

  • Providing developmentally appropriate programming to meet the needs of each child in the program’s care.
  • Maintaining a safe, healthy and respectful environment for children and their parents.
  • Preparing and actively facilitating age-appropriate crafts, activities, play centers and story times.
  • Welcoming parents, offering support when appropriate/needed, and informing them about their children’s successes following group sessions.
  • Creating opportunities for children to strengthen their communication, conflict resolution, emotional regulation and/or motor skills.
  • Introducing children to early literacy opportunities.
  • Introducing and/ or building participants’ parenting skills by being an effective role model. These parenting skills include but are not limited to, playing interactively with the children, getting down to their eye level, encouraging/ praising them, using positive language, and offering appropriate choices to children.
  • Assisting with the transportation of families with the children’s car seats and developing positive rapport with parents and children. This non-judgmental rapport is to be built through a combination of empathy and active listening skills.
  • Writing professional case notes following group sessions.
  • Assembling food preparation, conducting clean up duties and regular sanitation of toys and equipment as well as conducting laundry duties.

  • A permanent, casual/on-call position, availability Mondays to Fridays. Must be available for day and evening shifts.

Getting an Interview–you will be considered if you have:

  • A minimum requirement of 20 Hour Responsible Adult Training, Family Childcare Certification or ECE Assistant Status through the ECE Registry with the BC Ministry.
  • Early Childhood Certification is an asset.
  • Current First Aid certificate is required.
  • At least 1 year experience providing care to children

The Job Requires you to have::

  • Knowledge of early childhood development (ages and stages).
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate group processes and facilitation techniques.
  • Strong written, verbal, and active listening skills, able to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability and comfort in talking to children and their parents.
  • Good organization, time and general management skills.
  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to a high level of noise and distractions from children.
  • Ability to pay close attention to children’s physical and emotional needs.
  • Ability to conduct moderate physical activity, including walking standing, bending, and lifting children up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to be available to work during the day and outside normal office hours, including evenings.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
