Job Summary

The Punjabi Settlement Worker provides support and direction to immigrant and refugee families, to enhance successful settlement into the community. The Settlement Worker assesses needs and refers clients to appropriate programs, such as language instruction, community connections, and employment-related and information-related support services. The Settlement Worker will ensure the smooth operations of the program, providing information sessions to facilitate integration.

Your Role:

Archway’s Punjabi Settlement Worker with Pathways to Integration, Settlement Services, contributes by:

  • Assessing settlement needs for new immigrants using the assessment orientation checklist and developing an appropriate settlement plan.
  • Providing school enrolment support and case management for individual students and their families as they are assigned to a specific school and as they rotate through the English as an Additional Language (EAL) intake process.
  • Orienting school personnel about settlement related issues.
  • Encouraging parents’ participation in their children’s education.
  • Acting as a liaison between parents, students, schools and community agencies.
  • Organizing and facilitating group orientation sessions on community resources and community related events for clients.
  • Conducting outreach activities to promote community involvement.
  • Providing assistance and support in filling out forms, such as applications for social insurance numbers, medical services plan, Fair PharmaCare, and child tax benefits.
  • Referring clients to services and accompanying them to appointments as needed.
  • Advertising services to the community.

This position is a great fit for someone who has an understanding of and sensitivity to issues and barriers affecting immigrant and refugee communities, and has excellent communication, networking, and relationship building skills.

Our Offer:

  • Wage: $24.00 per hour
  • A full-time position at 35 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and possibly some evenings and weekends.
  • Temporary until March 31, 2026.

Getting an Interview–you will be considered if you have:

  • A post-secondary degree in Human/Social services OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the Settlement field.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in Punjabi as well as in English.
  • A valid BC driver’s license and a satisfactory driver’s abstract.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Understanding and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities.
  • Ability to work effectively with other service providers and community partners.
  • Demonstrated cross cultural communication skills and knowledge of community resources.
  • Comfortable with databases, Microsoft Office 365, and ability to use internet and email.
  • Excellent communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and carry out duties with a degree of independence.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle which can be insured for program-related driving according to Archway’s transportation policy.
  • Ability to communicate in both Punjabi and English.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
