Dianna N. Kay

Board Member

Dianna N. Kay is deeply committed to lifelong learning, a principle expressed in the Halq’eméylem word Totil:thomitil, which reflects passion and the dynamic integration of community, family, and individual growth. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Language Revitalization (Upriver Halq’eméylem) at the University of Victoria, advancing her work in Indigenous language preservation and education.

Her academic accomplishments include a Master of Arts in Linguistics and a Master of Education in Curriculum & Leadership from Simon Fraser University, a Bachelor of Education in First Nations Education from UBC (NITEP), and Graduate Diploma, Graduate Certificate, Advanced Certificate, and Intermediate Certificate credentials in Upriver Halq’eméylem from the University of the Fraser Valley. She has also completed specialized training in Indigenous Language Revitalization.

With over 25 years of experience teaching learners from children to Elders, Dianna’s work centers on curriculum development and culturally responsive pedagogy, guided by the principles of respect, relevance, reciprocity, repatriation, and renewal. She strives to empower learners to value themselves, their language, and their environment.
