This position provides individuals referred to EPIC with opportunities to obtain and retain paid employment by job exploration through identifying interests and completing assessments, enhancing job skills, and reducing barriers to employment. The Employment Specialist will assist individuals in obtaining employment, provide on-the-job support and coaching while working towards empowerment and independence. They will build partnerships with local businesses, fostering relationships that encourage collaboration with Archway and employment of persons with disabilities. The Employment Specialist will initially function as a liaison between the individual and their prospective employer until the individual is independent in their job duties.
Your Role:
Archway’s Employment Specialist with the EPIC program contributes by:
- Conducting intake assessments, skill development activities, employment preparation, job search, job coaching, assistance to clients when engaging potential employers, identifying and mitigating barriers to employment, job maintenance, and advocacy support.
- Providing one-on-one support to individuals including follow-up career consulting appointments using case management principles such as Individualized Vocational Service Plans, creating a plan and tracking progress, adjusting goals/plans as needed.
- Mediating and collaborating with employers to address client needs and resolving challenges using creative solutions and natural supports.
- Demonstrating flexibility, creativity, and a solution-focused approach while effectively identifying and prioritizing tasks.
- Keeping up to date files on clients using Teams- this includes organizing and maintaining client and program files.
This position is a great fit for someone who has experience working with persons with disabilities, is able to assess skillsets, and can identify creative ways to support building skills to encourage independence in employment. As well is able to connect with community partners, establish relationships, and work collaboratively to build diverse employment in Abbotsford.

- A full-time position at 35 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Getting an Interview–you will be considered if you have:
- Degree in a human-services related field or a Diploma in a human-services related field and three years’ experience working with persons with disabilities, preferably in a teaching capacity.
- A minimum of one-year work experience supporting Persons with Disabilities.
- Employment-related experience providing coaching around employment skills and job search techniques is an asset.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) or Mandt.
- Behavioural Interventionist training is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers’ License, clean driving record and a clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Valid First Aid Certification with CPR.
The Job Requires you to have:
- Strong written, verbal, and active listening skills; able to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of abilities.
- Proficiency in using computers; able to use a variety of software including Office 365 and client databases.
- Ability to use virtual software programs including Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and WebEx.
- Excellent relationship building and networking skills; ability to build positive and trusting working relationships.
- Excellent organization, time, and general management skills; able to prioritize effectively, complete tasks to meet deadlines, and adapt workload to respond to changing conditions, deadlines and priorities.
- Ability to problem solve to address individuals’ barriers to employment.
- Knowledge of best practices in employment skills including resume and cover letter writing and formatting, networking, and interviewing.
- Ability to keep up to date on labour market information and industry trends as change occurs.
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible, as scheduling may need to change to meet Program requirements.
- Ability to work varying day/evening shifts. Must be available to work Mondays to Fridays, and occasionally on Saturdays.
- Ability to meet physical demands, which may include kneeling, bending, crouching, or reaching while working with clients in the work setting.
- The use of a personal vehicle will be required for program-related driving; must be able to be insured according to Archway’s transportation policy.
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
