Job Summary

The Public Drop-Off Attendant is responsible for greeting customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions, and looking for solutions to assist customers in the most efficient manner. The Public Drop-Off Attendant is the first step in forming positive relations with the community and as such will value all people, their diversity and will demonstrate this by completing duties in a timely, courteous, and friendly manner.

Your Role:

Archway’s Public Drop Off Attendant with the Recycling Program contributes by:

  • Assisting the public in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Answering customer questions regarding the stewardship programs.
  • Monitoring Recycle BC materials and emptying mega bags when full.
  • Sorting household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, flammable liquids, light bulbs, batteries) into appropriate receptacles for shipping.
  • Assisting in stacking small appliances and e-waste on pallets and preparing the materials for shipping.
  • Sorting beverage containers covered under deposit legislation.
  • Operating the down-stroke baler.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe workstation; keeping floor space free from product and/or residue.
  • Keeping parking lot, landscaped area and loading area clean and free of any debris.
  • Reporting any irregularities including production or safety concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Attending daily staff/production meetings.
  • Operating equipment in a manner consistent with the manufacturer’s specifications and WorkSafe BC regulations.

  • Wage: $18.00 per hour.
  • A permanent, part-time position at 32 hours per week, availability Saturdays to Tuesdays, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Getting an Interview–you will be considered if you have:

  • Customer service experience is preferred.
  • Work experience in the waste, recycling, or environmental services industries an asset, however not required.
  • Lift-truck/Forklift certification is an asset.
  • WHMIS certification is an asset.

The Job Requires you to have::

  • Good verbal and active listening skills; able to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and effectively manage workload.
  • Ability to do repetitive tasks and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision, work independently, and be self-motivated.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to be personable, polite and able to deal with customers even in the face of criticism.
  • Current knowledge of recycling and provincial stewardship programs.
  • Ability to work at both Abbotsford and Mission locations.
  • Your own transportation to the work sites.
  • CSA approved footwear and other protective/safety gear.
  • Ability to work in a dusty and smelly environment.
  • Ability to cope with loud or distracting sounds and noise levels.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment with possible very hot and very cold temperatures, depending on the weather.
  • The capability to lift up to 50 pounds/22 kilograms.
  • Awareness and knowledge of how to handle hazardous material sharps and other bio-hazards.
  • An up-to-date Tetanus vaccine is recommended.
  • A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employment.
