October 10th is World Mental Health Day, a day marked by the World Health Organization to raise awareness about mental health issues and mobilize efforts in support of mental health. This year the WHO is focusing on suicide prevention.

Suicide Prevention

Did you know that every 40 seconds someone loses their life to suicide? With that in mind, the WHO is encouraging everyone to take “40 seconds of action” and:

  • improve awareness of suicide as a global public health problem
  • improve knowledge of what can be done to prevent suicide
  • reduce stigma associated with suicide
  • let people who may be struggling know they aren’t alone

This is a great way to show that you care! To learn more about this World Mental Health Day, check out the WHO’s resources to prevent suicide.

Our Commitment to Mental Health

At Archway, mental health is one of the areas we focus on as ‘people helping people.’ Did you know that we have several programs that centre on or include a component of assisting with mental well-being? These include mental health supports for youth through Foundry Abbotsford, Mental Wellness Parenting and our Sexual Abuse Intervention Program. Learn more about Archway programs for mental health.
