ACS & Starbucks surprised 400 customers on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22nd with free usable cups and free coffee in an effort to remind people about the benefits of taking small actions to make big impacts.

Four hundred customers were surprised today at Starbucks on South Fraser Way when presented with a free reusable cup and free coffee or tea.

“For many years Starbucks has supported Earth Day by giving out free coffee to their customers who bring in reusable cups,” according to Store Manager Heather Anderson. This year, the Abbotsford Community Services ‘Green Team’ decided to partner with Starbucks to bring even greater awareness to the community about the concept of ‘one little action at a time makes a big difference to the sustainability of our earth’.

“Paper cups are a very common discarded item, to the tune of 1.6 Billion thrown out in Canada per year,” says Mallory Palliyaguru, Education Coordinator for the Abbotsford Mission Recycling Depot on Valley Road. “Not only is that wasteful, it is totally avoidable. Rather than recycle, why not go one small step farther and reuse?”

Most Starbucks customers were pleased to see the partnership between their preferred coffee retailer and a local non-profit trying to do good in their community. For most of them it was a gentle reminder that we can all make a big difference even in the little things we do.
