The Discovery Program offers Community Inclusion Services to adults with developmental disabilities. The benefits of community living and inclusion are real. Given the opportunity, people with disabilities can be productive in our communities and contribute to society as a whole.
By accepting the contributions that people with all abilities can make, we can begin to build stronger communities. Community living enables all individuals to lead lives of achievement and dignity.
At Discovery, our programming is goal-centered, which resulted in nine participants together forming goals of travelling to Disneyland. To fundraise for this trip, they have diligently worked hard since early 2015 to participate in multiple fundraising initiatives. Now their Disneyland trip scheduled for February 2017 is fast approaching and they are still approximately $10,000 away from making their dreams a reality.
For some, this is a once in a life time trip! Something they may never experience again. Reaching such an incredible goal has the power to increase self-esteem and bring motivation in other aspects of their lives.
The money raised will go towards flights, accommodations, meal expenses and park entrance fees. The trip will be five days in length for the nine individuals and the five support staff needed to accompany them.
