“Lost is the best word to describe how I felt after immigrating,” says Harpreet. “One may have been a highly skilled person ‘back home’, but you need to demonstrate your skills and wait till someone recognizes that they need a person of your skills. There are very few quick solutions for settlement in a new country.”
But Harpreet and her husband Ajit found ‘many angels’ at ACS in the area of support to new immigrants. They found employment mentors, information that gave them a foothold to begin moving forward and they found connections to new ‘friends’.
Thanks to the help they received at ACS both Harpreet and her husband are now working and giving back to the community of Abbotsford.
