As I’ve been reflecting on this past year, I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support and for caring about the wellbeing of our community.
2025 has been full of lows and highs and everything in between for our agency and our community. But through it all, I’m heartened by the outpouring of community support, knowing together we are strong enough to brave any storm.
The Lows
This month, we’ve watched helplessly as another flood disrupted and displaced lives, bringing back painful memories for so many. While we couldn’t stop the water, our community rallied to make sure displaced individuals had shelter, food and clean-up help. In partnership with the City of Abbotsford and our emergency planning partners, Archway is deploying emergency food and are assessing how we can best help our neighbours during the recovery phase.
As an agency, one of the all-time lows that happened this year was when we got the devastating news that our recycling contract would not be renewed. The program closure on Dec 31st means the loss of income, community and meaningful work for 62 dedicated employees, as well as of a friendly, purpose-driven service to our communities.
One bittersweet silver lining in this whole process is seeing how the community has supported us and reached out in so many ways with kind words, inclusive job offers and suggestions of opportunities. I’m thankful to report that half of the Recycling employees have been able to find jobs (or other opportunities) and that our employment assistance won’t end when the program does. Archway will continue to support our Recycling team members to do as best as possible with their next ventures.
Families in Abbotsford have been facing high costs of living and more people than ever before are turning towards Archway Food Bank for a helping hand. Despite facing their own economic crunch, our community has continued to be generous in giving to support the rising needs for access to food.
“I don’t know what 2026 will bring, but my hope is that it’s a year of growth, connection, and moments that make you smile. Whatever it entails, we’ll find strength together in community and joy in the little wins and wonders.”

The Highlights
Despite the adversity, 2025 has also brought some incredible moments.
In July, we opened a new shelter where 30 residents now have a place to sleep, eat, shower and receive support every day and night. Plus, plans are in the works for a second Hearthstone building offering long-term supported housing. It’s encouraging to see the progress made in housing options in Abbotsford and to know that investments are being made to develop tangible solutions to our housing and homelessness crises.
Thanks to a generous donor and grants, we were able to hire an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper at Archway who is helping us ensure we are progressively delivering culturally relevant programming.
Some of the greatest wins at Archway aren’t shared publicly but behind the scenes. Our staff and volunteers are helping clients manage their anxiety, learn English, secure housing, establish social connections, access food, get legal advice, escape violence, become connected to their Indigenous heritage, and so much more. This good work is only possible because our funders and donors help us respond to needs as they arise.
One mom who has been supported through multiple programs over the years shared at an event about “the support of community, that I had never felt before and how powerful and healing that can be.”
Thank you for being a part of a wonderful community that steps up when and as needed!

Happy Holidays
My sincere wishes to you and your loved ones for a happy holiday season and a healthy and happy New Year. Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Hanukkah Sameach, happy Winter Solstice to all who celebrate. And if you don’t celebrate, I hope you enjoy a few days of rest!
If this season feels heavy for you, you are in my thoughts. You don’t have to carry it alone—whether it’s a friend, family member, work colleague or a caring professional, reaching out can make a difference. Please take time for yourself and know that support is always within reach.
I don’t know what 2026 will bring, but my hope is that it’s a year of growth, connection, and moments that make you smile. Whatever it entails, we’ll find strength together in community and joy in the little wins and wonders.
Much love and gratitude,
