“Welcome Day is an opportunity for individuals to get together and strengthen community connections,” said Abhinoor Sidhu, event organizer.
“By connecting with one another, we can ensure members of our community feel valued and supported. It’s a chance to celebrate our community and build new friendships.”
This free annual event celebrates the diverse cultures, experiences, and contributions residents bring to the community while reinforcing Abbotsford’s commitment to inclusion, connection, and belonging.
The evening will begin with a service fair from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where attendees can connect with local organizations and explore the many programs, services, and resources available throughout Abbotsford. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
The Welcome Day Ceremony will follow from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., featuring a panel discussion with community leaders, including Mayor Ross Siemens, Abbotsford School District Superintendent Dr. Nathan Ngieng, and Abbotsford Police Chief Constable Colin Watson.
This year’s keynote speakers, Tammy Brandsma and Hani Kambal, will present “When Welcome Comes Full Circle: The Welcome We Inherit, The Welcome We Extend”. Their keynote shares the inspiring story of how a single act of private citizen sponsorship grew into a lasting legacy of friendship, responsibility, and community.
Through their personal experiences, Tammy and Hani invite Abbotsford residents to reflect on the meaning of welcome, not as an act of charity, but as a transformative relationship that enriches and strengthens everyone it touches.
As Abbotsford continues to grow and welcome people from many different backgrounds, Welcome Day provides a meaningful opportunity for residents to connect, learn from another’s experiences, and build a stronger and more welcoming community.
