A collaborative effort between local businesses and volunteers has refreshed a playground at Archway Community Services, enhancing a space that supports children and families accessing essential community programs.
The playground is used by children while their parents participate in services offered through Archway’s Community Connections, Family Centre, and Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) programs. By providing on-site childcare, Archway helps ensure families can access the support they need while their children engage in play and learning in a safe and welcoming environment.
Volunteers from RBC played a pivotal role in the refresh, dedicating their time to sanding, painting, and upgrading the playground. Through RBC’s volunteer program, the project also received a grant to help fund materials for the refresh.
“At RBC, our purpose is helping clients thrive and communities prosper, and this project is a great example of that commitment in action,” said Jacky Gill, Regional Vice-President, Investment & Retirement Planning at RBC.
“We strongly believe in giving back to the communities we serve, so being part of this playground refresh was both a privilege and a joy.”
Archway staff emphasized the impact of this initiative. “By investing in this space, we’re prioritizing children and showing our families that they are a valued part of our community,” said Elise Marier, Community Connections Supervisor.
The refresh project included sanding and painting the children’s playhouse, picnic tables, and benches to improve safety and help prevent splinters. A donation of paint and tools from Abbotsford Paint helped brighten the space, while Klassen Group contributed wood chips to renew the playground surface.
“Creating a safe environment for children was our number one goal,” said Cindy Buhler, LINC Supervisor. “We don’t want the need for childcare to be a barrier to accessing services.”

Their enthusiasm and commitment, along with the support of Abbotsford Paint and Klassen Group, helped create a safer and more welcoming outdoor space for the children and families served by Archway,” said Cindy Walker, Archway Philanthropy Manager.
