On May 20, the New Beginnings Young Parent Program hosted its annual Thank You Tea, bringing together graduates, staff, and community partners to celebrate another successful year and honour those who supported the students on their journey to graduation.
New Beginnings is a collaborative partnership between Archway Community Services, the Abbotsford School District and the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Since its inception in 1990, the program has supported over 1000 young parents in successfully completing their high school education. This year, four students proudly reached this important milestone.
New Beginnings staff provide in-class education, childcare services, and individualized support for young parents. While students attend classes, their children (ages 0–3) benefit from quality, accessible childcare in a safe and nurturing environment.
“The Thank You Tea is an important opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates and to showcase the impact of the New Beginnings Young Parent Program,” shared Maria Cargnelli, the associate director of early years and counselling programs at Archway.
“It allows us to recognize the commitment of our students, while also acknowledging the invaluable support of our community partners who help create pathways for young parents to succeed.”
A highlight of the event is the presentation of quilts for the graduates’ children donated by the Abbotsford Quilters Guild.
The Abbotsford Quilters Guild also provided one of the graduates with a $500 scholarship at the event to continue their post-secondary studies.
