From past client to dedicated volunteer, Rahul’s story reflects the positive impact of Foundry Abbotsford on youth, highlighting how its services and volunteer opportunities can transform lives.

Rahul’s Introduction to Foundry

Rahul moved from India to Canada in 2022 as an international student. Adjusting to a new culture and improving his English were significant hurdles and it was the first time he was away from family.

Rahul’s introduction to Foundry Abbotsford came through a counsellor at the University of the Fraser Valley, where he was studying.

“When I first started coming to Foundry, I just wanted to try out some medications for what I was going through because I didn’t have a family doctor coming here, which is really hard to find.”

Rahul was immediately struck by the welcoming atmosphere at Foundry and had a positive introduction to socializing in a new culture.

“Rahul’s initial experiences at Foundry reflect our commitment to creating a welcoming and safe space for all youth. We aim to be a place where youth can feel supported and understood from the moment they walk through our doors,” said Elizabeth Shields, Foundry Abbotsford manager.

Foundry Abbotsford: A Place for Youth

Foundry Abbotsford is a part of a larger network of Foundry locations across BC, offering integrated services for youth and families focusing on mental health, substance use, primary care, peer support, and social services. Youth and families have been integral in planning the space, programming, and culture of Foundry Abbotsford, ensuring it remains a youth-friendly environment.

Bringing together services under one roof, Foundry aims to make it easier for young people aged 12-24 to find the help and support they need. All services are free and confidential, welcoming anyone unsure of what support they require to come and discuss their needs.
