Third Party Reporting of Sexual Assault

Third party reporting is an option in which a victim (19 or older) may anonymously report to the police through a community program like Specialized Victim Assistance.

TPR connects survivors to specialized supports, and gives survivors time to decide if and when they are ready to engage in the Criminal Justice System.

The report is an unofficial statement that captures information about the crime and suspect and does not include identity of the victim. With this information police may be able to identify sex offenders and hopefully prevent further violence from occurring within the community.

This report is sent to the police on behalf of the victim.

If the police wish to follow up with the victim, Specialized Victim Assistance can reach the victim and ask for their consent to pass along their contact information, or the victim can contact the investigating officer themselves.

It is important to know that there may be exceptions that must be considered before making a Third-Party Report. These exceptions can be discussed with the Victim Assistance support worker beforehand.
